The problem with text messaging

With text messaging a person can sit on the couch next to his wife talking shit about her to his mistress. This inherently inverts the natural way communication has worked for thousands of years. Normally if you talk to anyone in the presence of anyone the other person overhears what is being said. Even when teenage girls used to talk on the phone for hours other people could hear one side of the conversation. Privacy it was not guaranteed and normally an entire household was on a single landline. That means there was no inherent conspiring to undermine parents or partners. The phone lends itself to a high trust society, the text message to a low trust society. 

The text message is also a medium which is inherently autistic. It doesn't give you any context or nonverbal cues for what is being said. It's also passive aggressive, since a person can take an entire day (or more) to respond. Considering all of this you start to see why women prefer it in communications with men: take as long as you want, be evasive, be secretive, passive aggressive. As a medium it leans into all the worst aspects of female nature. 

I propose replacing this with the voice message. Basically sending a text message would be prohibited and all of the app makers would be forced to modify their product. You would send a voice message instead, and then the app would automatically transcribe that message 24 hours later. You could search the text messages and the voice message would auto delete after transcription unless you save it (to conserve memory) but the initial message would always come as something you have to play to hear.

This means that the person has no way to know what you said without listening to it, and humans, being the curious creatures that we are, are going to play the message. The app should also be required to send a read receipt. 

A masculine medium that forces you to actually commit to saying something, commit to listening to something, gives you emotional contacts for what's being said, and prevents passive aggressiveness. Your spouse should hear you talk to other people when you're sitting next to them, and you should hear them talking. The standard medium of communication for our society should not be one that allows people to live a double life. The voice messaging rule should even be applied to social media, because if it's not applied everywhere people will use social media to text message. 

If you want to be in the loop now you have to listen. 

This is one aspect of what I mean by controlling the technology that controls you. No one should have to put up with a catty bitch feminine society will be better off if everything is not super easy. Social media itself should be turned off a couple of days a week, Wednesday and Friday would probably be best since Wednesday gives you a break in the middle of the week and Friday is party time. All of this could be accomplished simply through appropriate legislation.

Luxury breeds isolation and contempt. About a month ago we had a brown out caused by a blown transformer and that was the day I met my neighbors for the first time. It's okay to force people to exert a little more effort to get what they want. People should go out and meet other people, people should be forced to be direct and not passive aggressive.

Your "friends"  may be talking shit about you sitting right next to you. This is why it is so weird that people would take offense to sharing their phones with their partner. As I have repeatedly pointed out the technological medium creates the culture, and since the norms of text messaging are that they facilitate a double life it becomes considered rude to intrude on that double life.
